My very first...a Ruger 10/22 carbine. My Dad who passed away when I was 15 bought it for me just 6 years prior. I was in a financial bind in my early 20's and sold it like an idiot. Nothing fancy or old or worth money, but the sentimental value was huge and I was young & stupid...

My first Ruger 10/22, wasn't anything special about the rifle...just a standard 10/22RB. I used to go shooting during the holidays when the ex-in laws came over for days on end...even if it meant in a snowstorm. That gun would hit anything I aimed at no matter what ammo I threw at it, even if that ammo was covered in slush from the snow or dirt dust from the range. I spent alot of time with that gun at the range and put alot of ammo down the barrel. Learned alot about bullet drop and wind hitting full pop cans at 200 yards.

Actually there are 2

A 7mm Argentine Mauser. It was an ok rifle and I was young and had more interests than firearms then. Now with all the information on the internet and a moderate interest in gunsmithing, it would have been a great project gun.

The 2nd I didn't own but my brother did and sold it without saying anything. It was a "Ted Williams" bolt action in 30-06. It was made (pre-64) Model 70 Winchester and branded for Sears.

I've got a few that I wish I had back, all but one were stolen from my house 20 years ago.

Winchester M70 Varmint in .225 Win, easily the single most accurate rifle I have ever fired.

Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 Rem, great rifle and I could carry it all day and not even notice the weight

Winchester M77 .22LR, I killed a lot of small game with that rifle and it was a gift from my father.

Lastly and the one that wasn't stolen:

SMLE No4 MK 1*, I paid $125 for it and it was in amazing shape. Stupidly I sold this rifle figuring I wasn't shooting it much so I might as well sell it, this is the reason I don't sell guns anymore.

Howa Model 1500 Lightning Rifle in 7mm Remington Mag. It was a good shooter that I wish I had back. Also a sporterized Model 1895 Mauser in 7x57. I gave that one to a good friend and it was subsequently stolen from her house.

The only one I wish I had back was a Ruger tang safety M-77 in 6mm Rem. That rifle was scary accurate.

I've sold plenty of rifles and the only one I wish I had kept would be the Daewoo K1A1.

I've sold and traded quite a few over the years, well over 100 and only regretted one. I had one of the 1990's made stainless Winchester Featherweights in 30-06 that I sold. Didn't understand that I had just sold probably the best all around hunting rifles until after it was gone. It took 3-4 years but I ran across another just like it at a gunshow last Spring and bought it. All is good now.

Hmmm, where to start?
* Remington Custom Shop Rem 700 in 8mm Rem Mag. It was a romper-stomper, and I was glad to part with it at the time, but over the years I have begun to miss it. Every time I see one I get the urge, but so far I have resisted. It's cold outside.
* Whitworth Express in 375 H&H. Again, a romper-stomper, but it was cool to watch people's eyes when you start shoving those big long cartridges into the magazine. Some of them were fascinated, some just wanted to get far, far away from it.
* Winchester 94 in 30-30. Nothing special, but it was my first rifle.
* My pre-WW1 milsurp collection, in particular my 1871 Mauser. I wish I could find one at a reasonable price.
* My sporterized K98 in 8X57 in a fiberglass stock. Traded it for my 77/22 Mag. Good trade, just wish I had it again.

It was the second gun I ever bought. Like someone else in this thread mentioned mine was a Ruger 10/22. I didn't know much about guns then so I don't remember what model it was back in 1990 but it looked just like the modern Sporter model and could have been for all I know. I had a banana clip that held x0 rounds and was great fun at the range and fields. Yup, wish I hadn't sold it and had it back. I was just a poor late 20 something and probably needed the money for something and wasn't shooting it much at the time. I recorded the buyers name on a piece of paper I just ran across a few months ago. Maybe I'll contact him, see if he want's to sell it back.
Or, I'll just add it to my want list.

I had a Browning Lever action in .22lr that I traded for a couple fishing reels and a live bait system for a boat I had at that time. The wood was gorgeous and the action smooth as silk. I was doing more fishing than shooting then...

I wish I had kept the first rifle I "built"... an all original 1903 Springfield 03A3 that I found at a pawn shop for the outrageous price of $90 (in 1971). Had a gunsmith alter the bolt and drill and tap, reblue, and I did a semi-inletted stock for it that turned out almost flawless (beginner's luck). I don't think I've ever felt a slicker bolt action than that one. I'm sure they're out there, but that one did it for me... shoulda kept it.

More than one, unfortunately. The ones I miss and foolishly got rid of include a .22rf Winchester Model 69, a Remington Model 788, chambered in .243 and a Winchester Model 100, chambered in .308. On the positive side, I usually keep what I get and I've got quite a few.

I have a 9422 but in a long rifle I can see why you miss it. but the one gun I miss was a bolt action 410 that was my grandpa that he gave me 10 years ago and I used to hunt ever thing form squares to crows. It was stolen out of my grandfathers garage where I left it to shoot crows out of the pecan tree. dont even know that manufacture made it or i would buy another

I miss my Nylon 66. I could write my name in a target at 50 yards with that thing.

I wasn't even going to mention my earlier mistake because it makes me sad, It was a Remington 700, in .300 WSM, black laminated stock in stainless with the matching rings and topped with a Leopold 4-9x50, the most expensive scope I ever bought--very accurate and the finish was flawless---the most beautiful gun I ever owned, but a retired dentist kept plunking down hundred dollar bills until I couldn't say no-----I'll regret selling that gun for a long time ---------- John
PS A few months later, his son took it out to Montana and shot an Elk with it

The one I miss the most is an Underwood M1 carbine. I had two stocks, the regular wood stock and a paratrooper folding stock. Also had the bayonet and sling and oiler. I had magazines from 5 to 60 rounds. I bought it from a lieutenant on the Lexington, KY police force. He had bought it through the DCM. He said that it appeared to have never been fired when he got it. He fired it once.....through his living room floor. After that his wife insisted that he get rid of it. From him I got a bunch of 15 round mags and several 30's. He had taken the springs out of two 30's and welded them back to back, then reassembled them to make a 60 (flip it over). After I got it I ordered two five round mags from a commercial source. I have read that M1 carbines aren't particularly accurate. This one was. I once picked off a crow at 90 yards with it. Slid the sight to the second notch and hit the crow exactly where I aimed.

This was about 40 years ago. I was young and foolish and needed money and sold it.

I sold a 1997 Remington 700 ADL 30-06 with synthetic stock and blind magazine in 2011 to help pay for a Remington Model Seven in 7MM-08. My 700 shot just over an inch at 100 yds with inexpensive factory ammo (truth told, with a better shot she probably would have printed an inch) and never failed to function. In contrast, my Seven had to go back to the factory with headspace issues and the finish would rust if there was any moisture in the air. I should have never made that switch.
