Removing rear sight

I bought a Remington Model 5 .22 last year and just replaced the rings today to bring the scope down closer to the barrel. But the rear sight is in the way and I can't get the scope cover past the rear sight. It looks like there's mounting screws to remove the base but I think I have to knock the leaf dovetail out with a drift to get to these (2) screws. Here's a picture, is this correct? Thanks.
