Wad for a .308
G day, im developing subsonic loads for a .308win using cast bullets. I was wondering what was the best wadding to use in keeping the powder against the primer.
Thanks.... P.S i know its been a while. Busy, busy, busy

If it's available there, try using a small (3.5-5gr) charge of Titegroup with no filler. I have found it to work well in 7.7x58 for gallery loads. Trail Boss would probably work well too. I don't like to use fillers in bottleneck cartridges.

I've been using Dacron quilt batting to fill-up lightly loaded large volume pistol cases for years.

Case fill
Some use Dacron, I still use Kapok. It leaves no residue and contributes nothing to the combustion process.

I'd love to see how this plays out. I'm just curious if you'll come up with any accuracy.
Since your goal is to limit your speed to 1k or below, are you using heavy bullets to take advantage of a higher BC and better trajectory? Using a 220 grain match bullet will also force your powder charge into a higher range than a 150 grain would, and a larger charge would be easier to work with, I think... |

The 173gr cast bullet is part of the receipe i have. I was given a starting load to work with and im working down from there. Its a friends rifle and his tool thing on the end.
Havnt worked on accuracy yet waiting to hit the right verlocities first
