Scope Options for Win model 67

Been looking at a winchester 67 22lr that I can get for a good price. The stock has some custom artwork that's pretty deep. I assume a competent gunsmith can tap this receiver? Have to decide if I really want to desecrate an old classic.

Next i'll have to think of way to repair the stock...

The problem with a 67 is that split rear section on the receiver, which mean that any mount will have to be 1/2 on top of the receiver, and 1/2 on the side...and that assumes that the bolt handle will clear it when you're done. Pure custom mount, with the associated cost, as no one makes them.

As it's some what collectible, I'd pick another platform that's set up already to take a scope.

Not necessarily. I have a Model 67 with a scope mounted on it. It is drilled and tapped and an airgun 3/8" scope mount block attached on top of the barrel/receiver, and a scope mounted in tip-off style rings. This makes the scope high enough and far enough forward that there in no problem with the handle interfering wiht the scope. However, it also makes it hard to get a good cheek weld.

Unless the rifle is real cheap (like almost free), I would get a different rifle to scope. Model 67s sell for not very much, usually around $100 or so, but drilling and tapping will set you back about $75 or so, and the mount will set you back about $30-ish, and rings and a scope about $60-ish, you're into the project to the tune of $250 or so and you still have a single shot rifle. For less than that you can buy a used Marlin or Savage that is set up for a scope, and probably still wearing the scope, and a repeater on top of all that.
