SWIFT bullet / length

I am loading some .300 win mag rounds in prep for moose hunting. I have never used this bullet before . It is a SWIFT, .308 cal, 200 gr, A frame, semi spitzer. It looks like it is designed to be crimped. If I seat the bullet so that the crip goes in line with the groove the bullet OAL is 2.92. The recommended OAL for a .300 is 3.40. Is this shorted length acceptable?? Can the bullet be loaded and seated prior to the groove to give it a little more length?? I appreciate the help. Thanks

Book OAL is always a maximum for a cartridge to fit into and feed from a magazine. Shorter doesn't usually hurt anything and will happen with some nose shapes.
