Put me down in the "eat it" camp. If you shoot something you or something else should eat it. Squirrel pot pie is always a crowd pleaser. Squirrel is best slow cooked, or it can get tough.

No, you don't need gloves. Just wash up thoroughly like you would after handling any kind of meat.

Here's my general process after a successful hunt. Skin the squirrels first; they're tough, so I dress and clean them after skinning. Easier to handle that way. Cut off head and feet. Soak the carcases overnight in a bucket of salt water. If I'm not going to use them right away, freeze them whole.

When ready to use, most often parboil the carcases and strip the meat off. Then use the meat as you would chicken. Great in casseroles and the like.

My objective this year is to get enough squirrel meat to cook up a batch of squirrel chile.

Grill it up for the dog if you don't want to eat it yourself.

Throw him in the freezer and worry about it next year.

Haha! Freezer? We can barely get a bag of frozen Herring into my moms freezer let alone an attic pest.

It is ok to handle squirrels without gloves if they are healthy. If they look sick I would not touch them though.

Well, unfortunately, my mom won't budge on the issue. Looks like I wont be hunting and eating squirrels for quite some time. Thanks for all the help though. Maybe she'll come to her senses next time she hears squirrels in the attic.

PM Pahoo and get his address. If it isn't too stiff mail it to him. He sounded hungry.

You guys are gonna get him in trouble

Mailing it to someone: Postal Problems.

Catfish bait: Great Idea (It works too!) But mom aint gonna appreciate it.

Freeze it: See Catfish bait.

Maybe your mom will come around and you'll be able to let us know the outcome. Best of luck young man, hope we see you around here more often.

Pretty sad that your mom doesn't want you to doing anything with the squirrel, especially when there are moms like this: (YouTube video... Watch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RlK0Xd4c2c)

Try to shame her into it, and I don't mean just getting her to let you cook it up - try to get her to do it.

Have her watch the video and if that doesn't have an immediate effect, throw a full on tantrum.

Fall to your knees for starters, then prone out and start crying, "Why couldn't Heidi Wilson be my mom?!! All I want is a squirrel melt! How is that too much to ask? I'll tell you why! Because I'm adopted and unloved - I just know it! If you don't love me, why don't you just kill me, MOM!"
