RCBS Trim Pro Manual Case Trimmer
a very helpful hint.
does anyone have/use one of these trimers ? i have one and have to trim a few thousand cases.., well, maybe a thousand 5.56mm NATO cases, i started to trim some yesterday and my arms got a bit tired from doing about 100. i put my right hand on the crank, then turn with pressure, my left hand on my RCBS Rockchucker for leverage, i got to thinking, there has to be an easier way to apply pressure while cranking, with a few minutes of thought, i said ahaaaa !! i need it to be spring loaded. i have the 3 way cutter, so i removed the cutter, went to my enormous "junk" bin and found a spring about 3 inches long that fit over the shaft, then found a washer that fit over the screw threads of the cutter, inserted the shaft into the right side of the trimer, slid the spring on the shaft, washer on the cutter and screwed it on, then put a trimmed case in the holder, reset the depth of cut, pulled back on the spring loaded shaft and with about 6 to 8 turns (your milage may vary) i have a trimmed case with very little pressure on my part. another hint: the spring came from a destroyed RC Dune Buggy suspension system |

That's a great mod... thanks!
I added power to mine by taking the handle off & attaching a short piece of rubber hose over an insert that threads into it's place. My drill, with a phillips bit attached, connects up to the hose and provides sort of a poor man's clutch. It flexes when the drill is powered on, and also flexes up & down so alignment of the drill isn't as big of a deal. I also use the 3-way cutter and can move through cases pretty quick. |

If you have access to a lathe or a friend with one, grind off the handle and turn the end of the shaft down to 1/4 inch and attach a variable speed drill motor. You then have a power trimmer. Much easier and faster. I did it with my Lyman, but it will work just as well with an RCBS. Since you will be running it at higher speed, keep it lubed.

MT, with my spring idea how would this work ?
say i remove the spring and follow your idea as per the above photo, i presume you are suggesting moving the shaft/rod, back and forth with the drill motor attached ? sounds like a great idea, i'll experiment with it along with ricklaut's suggestion. i am in the process of pulling bullets from nearly 2,000 rounds of a tried and true load the cases got mixed up with trimmed cases, i have a Dillon XL650, thus, i cranked out a lot of ammo in a short time, when i reload those cases, i plan on using the new Hodgdon CFR 223, the accuracy of that ammo is horrible, some will not even chamber due to the length of the case. |

Your spring idea is very clever, but as you have already figured out, if you follow my suggestion you won't need the spring. Yes you just press in while operating the drill motor. Quick and easy.

Anyone know if the spring-loaded lever on the left that holds the case will fit an older version rotary case trimmer that uses the collet with the T-handle?
