Need source for 45-70 factory ammo
Picking up my new 45-70 soon. I need a source for ammunition. I'm not yet into handloading. I'll be primarily deer hunting with it. Would cheaper than dirt be my best bet?

I sure hope jrsower hasn't gone ammoless for nearly 20 months waiting for an answer here! I'm not sure why this thread is in the retail feedback forum, but I see no need to move it at this point. |

My - thats a long wait for an answer!
The only stuff I could find - easily - was the Rem JSP 405 grain... and that is mortgage pricing too! It is also ''trap door'' category ammo - probably down there at the 25,000 pressure zone. I bought 20 rounds when I started off with my BFR but it sure was whimpy. To be honest - I think this is a cal that really HAS to be done thru reloading . in order to taylor to needs. I mean, if you have a Ruger #1 then you'll be after full pressure loads probably (35,000) ... and be in control of the fine tuning. I settled (for now) on a load for BFR - with 405 grain Lasercast flatpoints being pushed by 40 grains reloader 7 .. this is probably about a ''lever action'' load but - doubt I'd find what I wanted in a factory load ..... even leaving aside price.
