Decapping Pins

I bought some RCBS decapping pins for extras and to replace a bent one in my RCBS die. The replacement pins are straight and the one on the die has a head to keep it attached. Does anyone know if the original pin is available to buy?

call RCBS, they have a toll free number, and tell them what you need.

Yes I agree. Are you sure they are genuine RCBS pins? All have the head surely... as if not they will come lose. Perhaps a manufacturing fault?

Some die manufacturers used to design the holder for the decapping pin as a two-jawed pin-vise. The pins had no head. When tightened properly, the pins would not fall out.

I've bought three packs of RCBS decapping pins lately. None of them have "heads" on them. You can insert either end.

Yup they're RCBS pins. I know I can call RCBS and they will replace the pin free of charge, but I wanted to buy a few extras. I'm decapping crimped brass and bent the original. I straightened it out but would like extras just in case.

I think you need to buy some Lyman decapping pins. All of my RCBS dies use a straight decapping pin.

Back in the bad old days when replacement pins were very hard to find, I bought a 36" piece of stainless steel rod from a hobby shop, just under the diameter of a primer pin.

Cut off a piece slightly shorter than the original pin, for better stiffness. I polished the end and inserted it in the decapping rod. Had to shim with a piece of paper, but it worked.

There seems to be two or more sizes. I bent the decapping pin in my RCBS 10mm/40cal die, bought replacement pins and they were too thin.

Bianchi, some of the RCBS dies do take the pins with the heads on them. I have 2 sets of RCBS 223 dies, one takes the head type, and the small base takes the straight.

I guess I must have dies from 4 or 5 different makers, in 20 or so different calibers, and I've never seen a decapping pin with a head on it. I keep a 5-pack of both large and small RCBS pins hanging on the wall by my reloading bench.
