Primary Arms red dot magnifiers

Anyone have any experience with these? I see they also have a 6x now as well. I spent the money to get a great red dot sight (Aimpoint Miicro H1, 2MOA), but have an issue paying top dollar for the G23 3x magnifier. Will be using it primarily when I go target shooting 200-300 yards.

Is the 2 MOA dot increased by the same amount as the magnifier? If so, I wouldn't want one. I couldn't imagine shooting at several hundred yard with a red dot optic that has a 6 or 12 MOA dot in it.

I checked out the EOTech site. They showed their optic with a magnifier. The magnifier sits between your eye and the red dot optic.

That means your red dot will be magnified X times. So....a 2 MOA dot times 3 power magnifier gives a 6 MOA dot. At 300 yds, that would cover approximately 18 inches of the target.

If my math/process is incorrect, I'm sure someone will point it out.

IMHO red dot magnifiers have terrible optic quality. A clear target at less magnification is better than a fuzzy magnified target. Then there's the added weight, if used with a flip over mount it's awkward.

I've tried them but in the end just end up selling them.

I actually have one of these from Primary Arms. I think it's the 3x magnifier.

It's not that bad at all for the price. The flip mount that they sell for it is no good though. Too much movement when mounted.

I think I'm going to pass on the 3x magnifier. I'll probably just pick up a 1-3x scope for those trips that I want magnification.

FWIW....I would stay away from the Millet DMS-1. I have one...wouldn't recommend it to anyone. First time I gave it a good thump during some range drills, the illuminated reticle stopped illuminating. That didn't make much of a difference though because it wasn't bright enough to see on a sunny day. It weighs 1 1/2 pounds....too heavy in my opinion for an optic of that power range. Aside from the previously mentioned issues, and the distortion viewable at the edge of the glass, it's really pretty good.

The magnifier will NOT change the size of the dot relative to the target; both are magnified the same amount. For example, a 3 MOA dot covers the bottom of a soda can @ 100 yards with no magnification (1x); with a 3x magnifier, the dot will still cover the bottom of the can, no more, as the can got 3x bigger, too.

What he said.... Your dot is magnified with the target but it's not covering any more of the target than it was unmagnified.
