Any bullets or readily available molds with a litle better aerodynamic design than the usual? Just want to try some out.

The elliptical nose of the Money Bullet is efficient at BP velocities.
Lee has a spitzerish mould if you want to magnumize the .45-70.

Lee mold looks just about perfect. 500 grain, but I guess that is to be expected since the point i basically an addition to the normal bullet.

I was hoping there was another ?box magazine designed round? that happened to be the same caliber and reasonably close in weight range. Guess not.

The Postell bullet is the standard for long-range/standard velocity 45's

The aerodynamic design doesn't mean much for a relatively short range cartridge. However, Hornady is selling .458" Monoflex bullets. Barnes is selling TSX among other pointy .458" bullets. Nosler sells a BT. Montana Precision Swaging makes a swaged lead bullet. $wift will trade you organs for assorted 'A-frame' bullets. So will Woodleigh.

I can only see the 250 grain Hornady listed for sale. I tried the 250 and 325 factory loads. The 250s accuracy was atrocious, which was very disappointing, and the 325 was not good. I guess it is possible I could come up with a load that shoots them better.

I like that montana precision swaging bullet.
Probably can't use it though. No idea how fast I can push that with brinell of 9.25.
Quite a few of those bullets cost more than my current loaded cartridge. Hard to stomach.

I made a decision today. I sent a check to Ed's TC for a 357 Max barrel. The 45-70 goes in the back of the safe for now. Maybe to be brought out next year or maybe to be sold when the opportunity arises. Probably take it to the next OGCA event and see what is offered.

I do kind of like it, so I won't let it go cheap. I can see some definite potential with that mold Dufus linked. That is just about exactly what I was looking for when I posted. I contacted them and may order a mold and try to have it set-up by next season.

I just saw a 480 gr spitzer lead bullet design a few days ago, that was either getting the particulars worked out for a group buy, or was in the waiting period before production.

...But I can't find it, now! It's driving me nuts.

Anyway...
The point was very similar to this ridiculous NOE 454-260-SP.

On the NOE note... How about a 535 gr 'Postell-inspired' RN? (.380 BC.)

Anyway...
If you want to pull the .45-70 back out of hibernation, give the entire selection of applicable bullets in Accurate Molds' catalog a look-see. There are a lot of options, and everything in fully-configurable (with a 0.180" minimum meplat being a limitation in this case).
There's also no additional charge to send in a design and have him (Tom) add it to the catalog for you to order.
