Guess what I bought? :)

I'm posting this so that people actually know what they are looking at. I bought this for less than $300. Do you know what it is? I do...

Yup yup....ChiCom SKS. Notice anything funky about the lack of a factory /26\ stamping, the serial number and all of the quality control stampings?

Hmmm, I must be getting old. I remember when you could buy five of these at the hardware store for under $300.00.

I had that bedspread as a kid!

Looks in good shape for 40 years old.

What were we talking about?

I am not a SKS collector (although I have three Russians) so I am guessing it is a Sino-Soviet SKS.

Ronald, that was a hand me down from my oldest cousin decades ago. It's gotta be late 70's or early 80's. I kinda feel bad about it but I don't do any direct work on it, just the towel above it. I should probably clean it up and store it away.

Close but nope. The Sino-Soviets were 1955-1956 and had a Tula star off to the right of the receiver's SN (1 to low 2000's). This is a 1956 to early 1957 Ghost/Sterile. First true Chinese SKS.

Early seventies, actually. Very nice SKS, by the way.

Was the bed spread made in China? Is it properly marked? I think we may be on to something here.

Yup, you are right sir! It has the Saints but no Seahawks.

Thank you Roland. You know, I know that there are so many Chinese SKS out there that people don't seem to pay attention. I bought this off of GB; people were bidding more for crap...and here was this little jewel and nobody recognized it. I was the only bidder.
