Reloading shot in .45 Rim cases.

I would like to load bird shot/buck shot or a combo in .45 rim. Does anyone have a formula for this. It woud make an interesting defense/snake/small game(if you're right on top of them)load.I am thinking of BB's or #4 Buck or a combo.

If you mean the 45AR, it isn't going to hold much shot. You may be able to use Speer's shot capsules meant for the 45 colt. It might make a somewhat delicate loaded round, but at least it would hold enough shot to be useful.

The closest I have come is loading 44 mag cases with a simple overshot cardboard wad, so no direct experience.

Shot Shells for pistol

Have used Speer shot capsules for twenty years. Work well with # 8 shot and over Unique (middle strength powder load). Have used 357 load on old truck gas tank and at 15' gone thru and dented the back.
also load .44's and get much the same effect.
don't know about self defense but snakes and vermin out to about 30' should back off.

I load 45 ACP shot shells with #9 shot and it works quite well.

Medalguy : Do you use a shot cap of some sort or wads to hold the powder/shot charge? Do you taper crimp? I plan to use this round in my S&W Model 1917 so I can use either .45AR or .45ACP.What do you use for a powder charge?
