Non-operational AOW

I was wondering what exactly would need to be done to a coach gun to make it permanently non-operational. The reason I ask is because I been chatting with friends all day about a new movie we are making and we were toying with the idea of having a sawed off coach gun in the movie. One of my friends has a cheap coach gun that he doesn't use anymore and we thought that would be a good candidate for the movie.

Any ideas guys? Or should we just ditch the idea?

Usually ATF requires the barrels to be plugged. Would'nt hurt to weld shut the breach as well.

Write the BATFE a letter and ask them.

You are walking on thin ice, and where such things are concerned, it's better to go right to the source.

IIRC, the language used by ATF is that the firearm 'cannot be readily restored to firing contidion'. Welding the chambers closed would be a good way to comply, but I agree about just asking them.

Yeah, I was thinking about welding drill rods equal to the size of the chamber into the chamber. See, in my movies we make we don't use blanks. All our pyrotechnics are from tiny mortars within the barrel. It gives a better look and is more safe.

Remove firing pins and weld fp holes closed.
Weld chamber up.

At the federal level without NFA registration a shotgun with a barrel length under 18" would be an illegal weapon. If the barrels were welded solid with rod they could hardly call that a short barrel.

You should be able to drill small hole through the rod only to let sound out and let the shotguns fire primers only or maybe primers with a small blank charge, the bore should be obstructed with a weled in pin or rod so that they could not claim you could load it with a projectile.

A double barrel black powder gun is not a firearm so it can not be NFA regulated. your state may see things different,.
