homogenized
Did I spell that right?
Is there any reason one of the blue speckled enameled steel camp pots can't be used to melt down wheel weights? |

The steel in the pot will hold up to the heat, but the blue enamel may not. But, inasmuch as the pot should never be used for cooking after being used to melt lead, it does not matter if the enamel flakes off from the heat...it will just float on top of the melt. However, you would be better off with a cast iron cooking pot to melt lead. Years ago, I found a new cast iron sauce pot in my local hardware store that I used for many years to cast bullets on top of my gas range.

Yard sales are a casters best friend, I have picked up cast iron Dutch ovens and Muffin pans for almost nothing, I have found old ladles, and on a few occasions pewter Belt buckles and figurines dirt cheap.

Eh, I wouldn't do it. Steel/iron is one thing, but that enamel might flake off with 750f heat.

Ok, I have a dutch oven that I go for free, but questioned if the pre seasoniing of the pot would cause problems....Anyone ever use a preseasoned cast iron pot? Oh yeah, and thanks for the input.

Seasoning will burn off long before 750 degrees. I love my Dutch ovens but if I stumble across a used one somewhere I'll have a smelting pot.
