Help with .45 SWC load
I recently bought a box of x-treme bullets in 200gr SWC copper plated. I have the load aspect of it down, it is the O.A.L that has me puzzled. The loads I put together were at a OAL of 1.230 and seemed short, not too mention feed problems. I have conflicting load data for this bullet, some says an OAL of 1.230 and some says 1.275. Any have any suggestions?

Have you established a max OAL for your barrel with that bullet ?

I load my lead SWC'S at 1.255. If I make it any less they don't feed in my guns reliably. Just increase the oal a little and give it a try until you find the right length for you.

Bullet style and weight will change the OAL as we know.
I load lead, SWC, TCFP, RNFP, and with 200 - 230 grain .45 ACP bullets and find my OAL between 1.210 and 1.230 working the best (in my S&W 1911). The old RN feed the best in my S&W, Son's Colt eats up anything you give it. Regards, SN |

I saw data ranging from 1.235 to 1.255 for 45 Auto 200 grain SWC. With Rainiers plated SWC, 1.245 fed fine in my Kimber Pro CDP II. 1.255 passed the barrel-fit test but I had a couple of failure-to-feeds.
IIRC 1.275 is max OAL for any bullet in 45 Auto. Hope that helps. |

Ok, being rather new to loading, how do I establish my OAL for my barrel length and what is the barrel fit test. I am guessing that these two are probably the same or real close.

I load 200gr SWC to 1.250 +/- .005 and they seem to work fine that way. The general rule for SWC of any weight is to load with about a thumbnail thickness (~.040") of the driving band showing above the case.
