M1911 Government Issue Colt .45
I am curious as to the estimated value of my gun. The serial number is 70G30548 (sorry if I didn't write it correctly!) I'd like to know approximately how old it is and what similar guns are selling for. It is in very good condition and all parts are original to the gun. Regularly cleaned, etc etc Thanks in advance!

Colt's web site seems to think you have a National Match from the 1970s based on the SN.

Wilson's dates of Colt Manufacture lists it as a commercial 1911 manf. in 1973. Why do you think it is a government issue? To receive any valid values pictures are a must, your very good may be someone else's not so hot. Any other information given would just be guessamates.

I will get some pictures up ASAP. It has "Government Issue" stamped on the barrel. I'm not super savvy to much gun terminology so please forgive me. I looked on Colt's website as well and there is no "C" in the serial number, it is a "G" it's very confusing lol! thanks for the help

Are you sure it doesn't say "Government Model" on the slide?

If it's a Colt, there should be indentifying markings all over it. As noted, the left side of the slide will have most of it. With a "70" serial prefix, the barrel should be marked with not only Government Model, but Mk. IV Series 70, as well. Series 70 pistols had a distinctive "Accurizor" barrel and barrel bushing combination that distinguished them from earlier models.

That serial number is for a commercial pistol, not a military M1911A1. Sorry.

The Colt www appears to have the year right, but the description is sense free.
I think a standard MkIV Series 70 Government Model. Pictures would be a big help. Close clear pictures. |
