Who needs a dust cover? I'll tell you who needs a dust cover.
Some say you need it, some say you don't. Some say you need it if you in live in a desert (this happens to be correct - I live in Phoenix. I would never dream of not having a dust cover here).
However, the people that say no one else needs a dustcover are straight up wrong... Because if you have a CAT you need a MOTHER $#%& DUST COVER. Also between each use: You'll need to put a condom over the barrel; keep an emtpy magazine in the weapon when not in use; dip the entire weaspon system in cosmoline; place it in a watertight plastic bag; wrap it all in clean, white linen strips; wave a wand with a unicorn hair inside of it over while chanting; and, of course, put it in a rifle case... Then, if your cat lives in another house, down the road, 12 miles away, you will have a 50/50 chance of not having cat hair inside of the bolt, barrel, and trigger housing of your weapon. I have two cats. They are filthy, disgusting little creatures (but they are my filthy, disgusting littel creatures, so I tolerate 'em). It is not possible to avoid getting cat hair onto everything you own at least once. If you have a cat you will be shooting cat hair out of your weapon at some point. Get a dust cover.

^^^ Agree, I would rather have it anyways just because that is another thing that you can accessorize.

lol, I actually had the same thought but in relation to my dog(who sheds constantly) and cleaning my pistols.
Fortunately the AR I'm putting together has a dust cover and I too live in the desert. Although I still can't see it being necessary, but I'll probably change my mind the first time I'm out with it and strong winds chase me out of the desert lol |

The dust cover is that thingy that never opens in the movie...even after a hundred rounds.

I have a dust cover. Darn thing pops open on the first shot and won't close itself.
All my other guns don't have dust covers, they've never had a problem. All the other new designs don't have dust covers, they leave the bolt exposed 24/7. I've never found a cat hair I can't shoot out. Got three, I don't let them sleep with my guns. They prefer people. Much warmer. |

My Colt runs just fine with cathair contamination. If it's causing malfunctions, I would suggest a better AR.

With so many people allergic to cats, I see cat hair as a major boost to weapon potential. It's kinda my own BATF-approved CBW program.

I have reduced my cat fur contamination by having a designated cat rifle (DCR). Of course the cat wanted it to be color coordinated.

Anyone who says they don't like cats has never tried them in tamales.

I keep a couple of dogs around to keep the cat hair away from mine. Works pretty good too. Now how to keep the dogs' hair out.

Well, you could always get a vacuum sealer, I suppose. Those bags would keep most of the cat hair out. Not sure how you'd keep the cat hair off the bag, though.

You can't vacuum seal a cat, it'll never hold still.
Oh yeah guns are cool especially semi auto rifles, to stay on topic.

I must have some mutant, retard cats from Patagonia or something because their hair get into places I havent even been to yet. I try everything I can think of.
Oh well. I forgot who mentioned it, but someone said something about getting a dog. I can't. The little cat has already attacked Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, and Weimaraners. She is too tough.

perhaps a new accessory for an AR should be a furminator? Perhaps attach one to the bottom rail on the handgard...
I have a cat, and did have a german shepherd, but I never really have had an issue with fur on, or in my firearms. |

I have 5 cats, and I am always removing cat hair from many things. I got used to it. Annabelle has her own may of making herself understood on the whole hair issue.
PS, it doesn't seem either of the SA vz-58s have any difficulty running with cat hair floating around. |

I guess I have to ask: What's the down-side to a dust cover?
