1903 Springfield vs M1 Garand

Most all major ammo makers make 8mm Mauser still so were you get the ammo not made anymore is incorrect you can even get euro spec ammo which is warmer than our variety due to the possibility of getting one the rifles not made for the improved chamber.

I love the 1903 A3 Its appeture sights are easy for me to use, It has a strong nickle steel reciever, and is very accurate. The Garand is on my radar but I had to have the 03 first. For some reason the O3 reminds me of the Winchester model 70. I love it it is definately a Riflemans Rifle.

I vote for the 03A3 as well. I've got 2 Garands and 2 03A3's, love them all, but the 03 is more accurate and I don't have to worry about what ammo I use.

Take whichever one of those you find the right deal on first and then start looking for the other to go with it.

Another thing to offer to the conversation is that the garand only takes a specific type of 30 06.

I have thought about the k98, but it uses foreign ammo that is not manufactured anymore.
There are several companies that make it, including Remington (under powered loads) but you can get full power rounds from Sellior & Bellot and Prvi Partizan.

If You have a 30 06 Rifle like a 03 Spingfield You can convert Your spent cases to 8x57 use the same Primers and Powder You would use for Your 30 06. All You would need to buy are the .323 Bullets for Your Mauser. If You dont venture too far from a starting load Your Cases will last a long time. So there is a good reason to own both a Garand or Springfield and a nice 8x57 Mauser.

I have a Garand and will probably buy a 1903, but the 1903 will be a well done sporter. I have a K31 for target shooting, the 1903 can pull double duty as a hunting gun
