Electronic powder scales.

Hi to all,
I'm new to the forum but not to reloading but still learning a number of things and I'll pass along what I can too.

I've decided after 40 years of reloading to invest in an Electronic powder scale and rather like the looks of the Lyman 1000 XP and wondered if any of you had used one and the good and bad points about it?

I also looked at RCBS's similiar scale which measures up 750 grains.

Any input is apreciated!

Not sure about the scale that you are asking about but I did purchase a 1200 dispenser that I am very pleased with. It is also a digital scale when needed.

the guy at my local gun store bought a lyman 1200 dispenser and scale setup. He said it didn't deliver very accurate loads. he was loading something he invented based on the .223 case.
I have heard a good thing or two about the RCBS setup. I have an older version of the Dillon electronic scale. it is accurate.

I have the pact bbk it is a good scale and the price has really dropped, it's under $100 bucks at www.midwayusa.com

I wasn't real interested in anything electric after using my Uniflow and 10-10 for 35+ years. My wife thought it was "time for me to move out of the dark ages" and bought me a RCBS Chargemaster 1500 about a year ago. I love it, the scale is dead on, easy to use and the powder measure is great. Set the load, push the button, dump the powder in the case, push the button, dump the powder in the case, push the button......

I have a RCBS Chargemaster 1500... had it for about a year...it is wonderful.

I have a PACT electronic powder scale (DPPS model). I also have the PACT digital dipenser that works with it.
Like them both
I use the scale a whole lot more than the dispenser, right now. But both work very nice.

I think the Lyman scale is actually a PACT.....or so I was told.
It looks like a PACT.

The Lyman 1200 I have is very accurate and have had no porblems with it. My guess is the local gun store guy had a damaged unit or he didn't calibrate proper.

That's what I rather suspected too that he probably didn't calibrate it properly. Having been involved with computer supples & components for the past 20 years I know that most electronic instruments are very reliable if they function correctly to begin with and hold their accuracy for about 3 months then your basically assured of the item lasting a very long time and working correctly!

I should have mentione that Lyman 1000XP or another scale will be used to check the powder charge thrown by my Hornady L-n-L Progressive Powder measure initally and occasionally check a charge shell for the proper powder load.

Most posts prior to VaFisher's post seem to favor RCBS which is an old company along with Lyman which I figured should be pretty equal in accuracy and working capabilities.

I guess RCBS is more popular though.

I have a friend that has the RCBS 1500 dispenser. His is the one that kinda sold me on the idea in the first place. I have used both of them and would own either one without reservations. They both work equaly the same as far as accurcy conserned 1/10th.gr. and they run about the same speed it would seem. The only main difference between these is the scale is seperate on the RCBS and solid on the Lyman. One other difference is the RCBS will go to 1500 and the Lyman will go to 1200. The volume is not a issue with me nor will most ever use that much volume.

I also have the pact despenser and scale. It works great, but I almost never use it. Just becaus of my style of loading. I should try to trade it for something.

I had the Lyman did not like it, metering of loads seemed to be very inconsistent. My advice is the RCBS 750.
