.357 Sig

Just would like to know what people think of the .357SIG and what of the top brands do they work best in?(Glock,SW-M&P,and so on) Also what type of ammo can you get for one. Thanks

I only have experience with it on the Glock platform...a G33, and then I also have 357sig barrels for my G23, G22, and G24. I roll my own so I can pretty much make mouse fart loads to screamers using Blue Dot and Power Pistol.

Speer makes a great load for it as does Underwood Ammo.

Very accurate cartridge, (I know, I know it's no more accurate than any other round but it really is!) My P229 held up like a champ. I had thousands of rounds through it. My Glock seemed to get beaten up by the round. Now days I just use a 9mm. The Air Marshalls are replacing barrels every 20,000 - 30,000 rounds or so but they shoot frangible which are harder on the barrels.

Great round but expensive to shoot.

Currently don't have a .357sig left in the safe but am determined to add one back in the next couple of years.

I've heard conflicting reports if S&W still produces the m&p in 357 sig. They probably still produce the gun for military or law enforcement but I don't know if its still offered in their consumer catalog ? I have 3 M&P's in 357 sig. One has a 5 inch storm lake bbl. These are a great platform for this load, Soaks up recoil nicely. I have the Full Monty underwood ammo and this stuff is very powerful. I wouldn't be surprised if its pushing 1600 fps based on the videos I've seen.

Ive shot sig, hk, glock and m&p in 357sig. Sig is definately the softest shooting gun in that calibre, and my edc, in sig p229. Hk p2000 would be 2nd. Imho.

I carry a glock 32 (compact) daily. Recoil is snappy but very manageable. Very effective cacartridge.

I have fired 10,179 rounds down my 229 sport. I see no real evidence that the barrel is shot out or in trouble. Frankly I bought another whole top end as a backup just in case but I never expect to use it.

The 357sig is a great round, fun to shoot, accurate, powerful and easy to reload for.

What more can you ask for?

In post 3 it is pointed out that barrel replacements come at 20 to 30 K. I was thinking that was a bit excessive myself. I was just pointing out that at 10k, mine is just chugging right along.

Air marshals qualify twice a year with 50 rounds each qualification, 100 rounds a year. They use 125 grain Gold Dots not frangible. I seriously doubt if you could find over 3 guns in the entire service with 30,000. rounds trough them. The 357 sig is no harder on a weapon than 40 S&W, same recoil more noise. In this shortage I can get 357 sig and 10mm easier than 9mm.

I have a Sig P229 in .357 Sig and I think if you shoot the load the round was designed for (1400 fps 125 grain) it is a bad mother. I have read every article and watched every gel test video I can find on this round. The actual use as described by LE in real shooting situations tells a lot more about this round than all the tests and videos. Some of the self proclaimed gun experts claim the +P+ 9 mm 115 grain is equal and it seems to be in gel and on paper but I haven't found any real world stories from LE about how great the 9 mm has performed in a shoot out. I would be interested in reading such stories about the 9mm if someone will direct me to them. I have most all calibers except .45 and I keep an open mind about which one would be the most devastating. The 10mm is a bad ass round also but it has to be loaded with what it was designed for and not the watered down stuff. The full power .357 Sig and the 10mm are much more than the novice shooter wants to deal with at the range for practice. Federal and Sig designed the.357Sig around 1 load that worked and when you stray from those specs you are only shooting a hot 9mm.

I have a Sig 226 that I bought in .40 and at the same time bought a 357Sig barrel to interchange. I love it. I use 125gr Gold dots and they are very accurate and sweet shooting. Last I knew it is the same round used by the Air Marshals and Secret Service.
