Help! The local shop where I've been buying my 225 gr .45 ACP flat nose lead bullets is closed for some repairs. The only bullets I have are some 230 gr round nosers from Precision Bullets. The problem is that I can't remember what powder charge I used for them. With the 225's I've been getting good accuracy with 4.8 grains of 231 (which I have pounds and pounds of). If the bullets were regular cast lead I'd just add two or three tenths of a grain. But the makeup of the "black bullets" is different. Anybody have an idea for a charge? I'll be shooting them out of a standard 1911.

Thanks for any input.

Thanks, LilJoe. I shot some Oregon Trail 230 LRN's on Sunday using 5.2 grains of 231, which is what I thought I remembered my old load to be. That must have been the load for the FMJ's. No wonder the accuracy was terrible. Gotta start writing this stuff down in my old age.

I can't say enough about Precision Bullets. I started shooting the 230 gr LRN in my Para Ordinance and S&W 945 in competitions this year. My mixture is:
CCI 300 SLP, 5.8 gr of W231 using Federal brass with a COAL of 1.240 and a Diameter of .468; This pushes my bullet 900 fps (average). My start load was 5.3 gr and I worked up from there. If you shoot steel targets or bowling pins, this is a good load to take care of business.

Speers Manual #13 list 45Cal 230Gr LRN W231 Start 5.1 760 Fps max 5.6 831 Fps OAL 1.250
lazer Cast Loading Manual list 45Cal 230Gr LRN W231 Start 4.5 728 Fps Max 5.1 830 Fps with and OAL of 1.260
Why the differance please tell me?
With the polymer coating on Precision Bullets you can push them a little faster then regular lead cast bullets.
I use them in 9mm and put them at about 1100 FPS no leading, fouling or lead dust, and great accuracy.
