Handloading for AR-15 in .243 Win?
Anybody have any info? Can put the same reloads through it that I would use in a bolt action? In other words, can they handle SAMMI pressures/slower burning powders like H4350? I'm really looking at the DPMS AR-15 in .243 Win. but only if I can use my H4350 (I have a lot of it). Reason I ask is I was looking at an M1 Garand but found out I can't get full 30-06 performance out of one, so I would like to know if it's the same with the AR-15.

The Garand's gas system is much different than the AR-10 style of the DPMS. You will not have the same issues. I would work up a load just as with a bolt gun but full length size the brass. No neck sizing. Slower powders will work fine. I never had the .243 but I shot the .308 a bunch. Enjoy.
BTW- I almost picked up one of those in .243 recently but went with the PTR 91 in .308. |

My brother-in-law has a ar in 243 and I reload it just like a bolt gun.
I haven't had to crimp primers for him so far.The powders I have used so far are biggame,IMR 4064 and IMR4350.Hope this helps some. |

Thanks a bunch. I guess the proper nomemclature would be AR-10. I really like the idea of this platform in .243 Winchester. Great for 4 legged predators (with FMJ) and the two legged type if it is ever necessary. Plus better ballistics than the .223 Remington and I'm all set up to reload for .243 with plenty of powder, primers, brass and a fair amount of bullets.
