Sportsman 48 with magnum loads?

I have a Remington Sportsman 48 in 12 gauge that looks factory new. I have shot hundreds of rounds through it & it has never jammed. I have always avoided 2 3/4" magnum shells. Do you think using magnums would be okay (I'm thinking slugs or buckshot) or should I stick with my no magnums policy?

Considering the fact that the model has been out of production for a lotta years and that certain parts are now made of unobtainium, take it a little easy on the old girl and you'll be using it a long time. GW

Although the friction ring can be flipped/adjusted for 2-3/4" high/lo brass shells, IMO the 2-3/4" magnums are too strenuous for the health of the forend & receiver, from the barrel recoiling with more force than the mechanism was designed for.

Any long recoil shotgun can crack the forend and/or the receiver, from too-much hard slamming - usually seen in older guns, who's recoil spring has lost some power.

I would abstain............

I wouldn't with any of my 11/48's. Mine are clays and dove guns.
