M&P 9mm vs XDM 9mm

Which is the better of the 2? M&P 9MM OR XDM 9MM?

I say XD(M)9. I've put 2k rounds through it so far, and no problems at all. Feels great, and customer service from Springer is great. I actually bought the XD9SC first, which I liked, then the (M)9, which I love, and just bought a 1911 from them, also awesome. What I've found so far about the M&P and the XD(M) is that some people will like the feel of the Springer, and some like the Smith. You have to pick them both up, and handle them. I shot them both at the range and shot much better with the (M), so a few days later, I brought that home.

Edited to say that if you want specifics on why I think it's better, just ask.

I bought the M & P 9 myself after checking them both out.

It fit my hand better and I wanted one with a thumb safety as opposed to the grip safety on the XDM.

Both are great guns and you cant go wrong with either, try them both out.

I rented both at the range and shot much better with the XDm.

I bought the XDm in 9mm last November and it's been one of my favorite and most accurate shooters.

M&P, I feel it is better ergonomically, and it has a lower bore axis which results in less muzzle rise than the XD series. Also the M&P is an american design that is made in the USA whereas the XD, while a fine pistol, is a rebadged, slightly modified, and marked up croatian gun. That matters to some people, but not everyone.

They are so close that it boils down to which fits your hand better.

LoneStarWings XDs are actually made in Croatia. Part of the former Yugoslavia and originally imported in the USA as the The HS2000 (Hrvatski Samokres (Croatian Pistol)) and also $200 cheaper than their Springfield marked counterparts.

http://www.xd-hs2000.com/hsarms/manual/HS2000.pdf

I guess the Springfield name is worth something. Heck 90% of their 1911 frames are Imbel cut in Brazil.

Sorry back to the OP

I have the M&P 9mm. Its a great gun. Loved it first time I held it.

The XDm is the only other gun that I have had a similar love at first hold experience with.

Bottom line, I own the M&P, and I have shot the XDm. THey are both great choices, you can't go wrong with either one. See if you can try them out, but I would lean towards the M&P. (Since I own one).

Almost an apples and oranges comparison. The standard M&P9 competes with the standard XD9. The XD(M) is an enhanced pistol, and probably more comparable to the M&P9L or the M&P9 Pro.

All good guns. It comes down to hand fit and trigger reach issues between the two, really. If the manual safety is a desired option, edge goes to the S&W IMHO, for close range defense, muzzle standoff capability of the XD is always a compelling tactical advantage.

Just another $0.02,

Mas

Nothing feels or points better than an M&P. My love for it ends there. I shoot the XDM much better. I have two M models. One has over 10K rounds through it and the other has 3,500 through it. The only issue that I have had, you must use snap caps when dry firing anything in the XD family. I shredded a roll pin in one of the pistols while dry firing. The gun still worked and it was a two minute fix. That is my only complaint/issue with the guns.

Quick sight (re)acquisitions is all that matters. Muzzle rise means nothing.

Muzzle stand-off is when something protrudes beyond of muzzle of the handgun allowing you to press the handgun against the target in extreme close range situations and not move the slide back which would prevent the handgun from firing.

Whatever you wanna call it I simply prefer the recoil characteristics of the M&P's over the XD's. XD's seem to accentuate felt recoil to me. whether .40, .45 GAP, .45 ACP, even 9mm. Both good guns but M&P for me.

Clearly both guns are made by reputable manufacturers and have a large following for each. For me, I spent months trying both (holding and rental at the range) and ended up with an MP9 and MP9c. You really can't go wrong with either gun, so go try shooting both and see which one "feels" right.

What capability are you referring to? You shove any XD into someone's gut and it is going to act just like an M&P. Meaning, both are going to malfunction.

The recoil spring from the XD extends beyond the front of the slide and is substantial in size (radius). This design is patented by Springfield as a feature for muzzle standoff capability. I think what has been said is that, if you jam the gun in a captives back, the gun will still fire...if you use the recoil spring as the jamming mechanism.

But if you angle it incorrectly, the slide will move back and it won't fire.

I have the 9c and I've spent time with my buddies XD40 (which ever one is about the same size as the 9c) I like them both pretty good. Grip safety is pretty neat on his, however.com I also like my M&P trigger only safety. the M&P is just a little narrower but a little longer....50/50 buy which ever one you like best IMHO. Shooting the 40 v my 9...well of course the 9 is easier on you so I can't really judge that.
