A little while ago I bought 3 Butler Creek Steel Lips mags for my 10/22 and put them in that funky looking star configuration. When I tried it out though, I ended up with the mag blocking certain parts of my rifle from functioning correctly.
Anyone else know about this? Do the hot lips work better? IS there any way to get my mags to work?

Thanks for the help.

What are the magazines blocking when they are in the star configuration? I'm sorry to say that I have never used the Steel Lips, only the Hot Lips. Those (original 25 rounders) have worked great in my 10/22s.

The mags block the bolt assembly from loading the next round in. I don't know why...

I briefly considered filing down the part that blocks the assembly but questioned the wisdom of it.

What do you guys think?

Do the mags block the bolt only when they are in the star configuration or also when they are used one mag at a time?

The factory mag fits snugly in the mag well. I'm thinking that the Steel Lips mags might be a little loose in the well and under light recoil causes the mag in the well to tilt forward (front downward/back upward) and cause the bolt to hang up at the back of the mag.

Actually the bolt is blocked pretty much all the time. Both in the star and individual configs.

Should I file?
Should I try to contact Butler Creek?
Should I sell?

any ideas?

Go over to http://www.rugerforum.com and ask those guys. They have a 10/22 forum over there and I'll bet someone there can give you the info you need

Sounds like the metal lips were molded into the body of the mags out of spec. I would send them back for repair or replacement (possibly for the Hot Lips). If you do do that, ask to be reimbursed for shipping.

Good luck on what ever decision you make.
