I like:

Lee-Enfield
1917 US Enfield or P14 action
1995 Winchester
1886 Winchester
1873 Winchester( King Action)
Marlin 336

And a ton of others I love. It would be a lot easier to list actions I don't like:

AK action
Tavor & all bull-pups,
Hakim (or Swedish Lungman)

Trapdoor Springfield, specifically the M1888. Carried one up San Juan Hill in 1898.
SIG SHR 970 of course.

Anymore I like my 1873, 92, and 94 Winchester actions, and I really like the 1885.

For self loading, I think the winner, hands down, for technical interest, has to be the HK roller locking action, or the Swiss SIG roller locker.

Smith & Wesson revolvers and the venerable 1911.

For a bolt gun? Model 70 Winchester. Period.
There are too many fascinating lever actions to have a single favorite.

How anyone can favor a Mosin over a Winchester 70 makes me wonder if they are OK?

Remington 700 trued 308 cal. There are a lot of nice custom actions out there, but I'm very happy with my 700.

Favorite bolt action is the Winchester Model 70. Love em and all that are modeled after it like the Kimber Montana, etc... Favorite calibers are the 270 Win, 308 and 300 win mag. Favorite lever is the Winchester 94.

I have two pre 64 Win M70s.
This one I put a new scope, sling, stock, bipod and Pac-Nor barrel on it.

I have ~ a dozen Mosin Nagants.
This one I drilled and tapped for scope, converted the magazine, put on a 300Win Mag Krieger barrel, new stock, designed a recoil lug/pillar, new trigger, opened the feed lips, designed and installed a ejector over ride button for unloading unfired ammo, new sling, new bi pod, recoil pad, welded the bolt handle, and made a rear pillar with clearance for the trigger.

My favorite action is the;
Model 70 controlled feed action with jewel triggers
Sako bolt action
Savage bolt action with sharp shooter triggers
700 Remington short action with jewel triggers

The above are reliable, trouble free and accurate. Some of those candidates are 50 years old an d time proven again and again.

Bolt
Lever
Single

Not always in that order……. as far as brand/manufacturer all have plusses and minuses but they all work.

If I had the money and could justify it even then….. well a bespoke Holland and Holland Mauser would be great in .275 Rigby or a Dakota….. but I don't and couldn't.

So I'm happy with my .06 on a Mauser Action and my .275 on a Springfield action…. My old #43 Winchester .22H works just fine even if it was advertised as the "poor man's Model 70"

94 winchester / 88 winchester / 39A Marlin are all pretty classic for my levers but I sometimes covet a Savage 99.

1885 Browning and a Ruger #1 work just fine for SS.

So, for me favorite type is one thing….. specific manufacturer??? Well that's just arguing in circles.

My answer would be somewhat subjective and situational.

But, in no particular order, I'd probably be picking from:

Marlin X7
Marlin 1891/1892/1897/39/39A
Marlin 36/336 (and 'big bore' variants)
Winchester M70 (controlled-feed)
Winchester 1890/1906/62/62A
Ruger M77 Mk II (No tang-safties, no Hawkeyes. The triggers do suck, but the actions are solid.)
Ruger 77/22-series (77/22, 77/17, 77/22H, 77/357, 77/44 - though, those last three are each unique in design, and all different than the rimfire action)

I'm tempted to add the Krag-Jorgensen action for its ease of use, seductively smooth operation, and ingenious magazine design. ...But it's a pretty weak design and doesn't play well with much other than .30-40 Krag or wildcats with slight modification upon the basic cartridge.

My preferences are pretty routine
1- Mauser 98
2- Winchester High Wall
3- Winchester 1894
4- Savage 99
5- Remington 700
Then throw in the also-rans like the Model 70, M77, Marlin 1893, Winchester 1892, ARs, AKs, etc, etc. Pretty boring stuff, I like the classics.

Clark;

You mention the BAR is #13 on your list. Do you mean the M1918 BAR, or the Browning/Miroku BAR in current production?

Also, you mention a button that overrides the ejector on your .300 WM Mosin. Does that mean that if you're ejecting a live round, you need to manually pull the case from the action? If so, is that so you don't have to pick the round out of the dirt? Or because the loaded round is too long to eject normally?

Thanks
