not very sporting Minigun vs Hogs

I suspect a canned hunt....

I'm not endorsing this but you gotta see this video. I think they released at the right time. I didn't read any of the post however.

All that ammo for only 3 verified kills...

Such a waste.

I think the third comment below the video sums it pretty well...

Hansam, it was often claimed that some 25,000 rounds were fired per VC/NVA killed in Vietnam.

But, yeah, the comment about eradication of pests was certainly apropos. Feral hogs are about like giant cockroaches, all things considered--but at least the blasted things are edible.

...Definitely looks canned.

I can't judge them for their actions. But I prefer to give any animal a better death than that poor shooting, even vermin deserve a little better.

I hate hogs and kill them on sight but letting them out of some pen/cage to mow them down like that......kinda disgusting IMO.

I don't see anything disgusting about it except that they were caught, caged and then the majority of them were allowed to escape. If you'd gone to the trouble of catching all these hogs you should have just killed them instead of releasing them to be shot and of course missed - and thus just freed.

I also think its a waste of ammo for only 3 confirmed kills.

Personally that's pretty disgusting.
I've never killed any animal purely for the joy of killing.
But each to their own.

That's not hunting...

I see stuff like that and I tend to worry a bit.

Pig hunting has no rules, so being able to kill them in any manner brings out a lot of weirdos. I suspect that somebody paid a ton of money to do that. That wasn't even for pig controll... My suspicions are that those were captured pigs and re-released for that activity. That gun did more environmental damage than those pigs would have caused.

That being said, there's a vast difference between hunting pigs for sport and meat than trying to kill them for control purposes, but it still has to be done smartly. I hunt them to keep them away, so, there's times I have to kill them and drag them off. You have to kill enough do the rest will stay away for a while.

I don't fire a shot that I can't account for. So I don't take shots at running pigs.

Nothing there says "canned" to me... These things in herds are often on a routine and can be "headed off" and waited for...

Those looked like fully healthy feral pigs to me...

I wish the herd could have been larger though...

Haven't seen it yet, but from what I have read, the only problem I have with it is that at least one may have gotten away!

Should have had claymores set up for any that escaped the initial zone...

They are like rats, only 1,000 times bigger!

Brent, at this point I am merely speculating, there is no explanation with the video so that leaves us to hash out our own plot. After your statement I see that any of number of things could have happened.

As my hunting style is to wait in a shadowy spot on a known pig route that I scouted ahead of time then pick one or two off. They could have done that,(just armed with a mini gun),the pigs could have just happened to cross the range at the wrong moment. The video is pretty short to come up with the correct assumption. I don't think any suffered long, but I bet the meat was ruined. Lol

Two separate issues here:

1) Feral pigs are a destructive invasive species, and should be killed by any humane means necessary. TRUE

2) Anyone who enjoys machine gunning animals, or watching videos of machine gunning animals is probably a huge dirt bag. ALSO TRUE

These two issues do not contradict each other in my opinion.

Although I may agree with your opinion, personal attacks or insults (even 'group' insults) aren't the way things work here.

I didn't agree with the method, but I don't think any inhumane kills were proved or disproved.

The most inhumane thing I've ever seen was bow hunting.

Certainly looks like a canned hunt to me with the hogs being released right of screen. And, as far as canned hunts go, this one looks pretty distasteful.

I understand how invasive these things are and I have no problem with eradication but this isn't a hunt I'd sign up for.

I know pigs are a nuisance. But me being a human prefer to kill humanely. What a waste of ammo.

I don't like seeing that. The guys doing it should remember the cliches of the anti-gunners when they tried to tag "assault weapons" with being operated to do what that minigun did. It's only validating their propaganda.
