Think I had a lucky escape. You agree?

Yes, I am still banging on about the CZ75 Compact that I saw used for a good price.

I went back to look at it a third, and I think last, time.

This time I was armed with a bag full of cleaning products: I wanted to get a closer look at the barrel which had concerned me, somewhat, before.

I looked in it and it looked shotgun smooth: almost no discernible rifling. I sloshed some Hoppe's in it, and after 5 mins, I brass-brushed it vigourously.

Finally, the rifling became visible. It looked OK.

However, I saw that the bore had a hazy look. If I look at any of my rifled guns, then the bore surface is mirror shiny. Not so with this CZ: my guess is that the bore had been rusty at one stage and that the surface had then been damaged as a result.

A guy I know in a gun shop felt that it must have been a high usage example and that I was wise to walk away.

Based on what you've read, do you agree?

None of us are ever happy when things do not go well in a possible purchase. All I can say, is at least you are not harmed other than from time and effort you took to keep from making a mistake which would of left you far unhappier.

There is another firearm around the corner with your name on it. Go find it and enjoy life.

It's always good to get a close look at a used firearm. Along with being able to bring your own cleaning kit to inspect it, I think three viewings helped you in this situation.

Wise to walk away and get a better deal.

Glad that you did not but it. If the bore is a concern now, just think what it would be like once you shot it. Good choice. Oh, and if this is the CZ from your last thread, I voted for the FEG. lol

It is that same CZ.

I actually had a look at the FEG. It seemed OK, fairly tight, finish was even, but the inside was full of rough machining marks.

It felt nice, but I was not bowled over. Perhaps if I had shot it, I might have felt different, but I think I'm going to let that one go...

No way to really know if it was a shooter except by trying it.
Would they have let you take it for a test drive?

Time to find a different gun shop or wait till they get some more guns in. Probably not what you want to hear, but pressing the existing inventory for a sale is not the best in the world.

There are a lot of firearms in the world, just maybe not at your local dealer.
