Ak Pistol
Denny,
Have you done a article on the Ak style pistols? If not, would you consider one? It would be interesting to see Mr. Thompson thoughts if they were viable as a PDW in a security application or even as a HD weapon. If its something you might consider, I'd like to see one used with a single attached sling and the new LaRue Tactical "AK-IronDot". They are available in 5.56 and 7.62, so I guess caliber would be the owners choosing. I know there are some who will say, just get a underfolder AK, but the AK and AR pistols are interesting items. |

I have an AK and an AR pistol. Neither are really practical. They are just toys.

AK Pistols
Vos,
This is a topic that I have been following (as have a folks whom I train with). A few folks have found that the AK pistol fits the niche of a higher powered "pistol" that they can carry with a CCW in a vehicle as the carry of a rifle violates state law. I have been modifying THIS harness for AK use: http://andysgunthoughts.wordpress.com/uzi-harness/ With a 1" (or 1.25") strap to come from the shoulder harness. Some folks like a double harness to keep it stable... Andy

strap
Langloisandy: Those are the same thoughts I had about the AK and AR pistols. I think combined with a sling and the new Larue Tactical "Ak-Irondot", they would increase the accuracy and utility of the firearm. Have you tested accuracy with and without the harness out to 50+ yards? I would think the rifle cartridge would also increase leathality at an extended range that a pistol caliber might not be sufficient.

Both pistols (AR and AK) are very limited niche items for certain circumstances. Both may have a place but only within a very small operational envelope....other than being fun that is. I'm currently finishing testing with an RRA 10.5" 5.56mm LAR pistol, runs good, with training-and an optic- it is fairly accurate out to 50 yards or so.
