I'd recommend writing a bit more in This thread before it's considered a drive by.

Just a media exercise - when folks do a real survey they find:

1. Most Americans are in favor of measures that can keep guns from criminals.

2. Most Americans are in favor of law abiding citizens being able to own guns.

The second question is usually not asked in media polls that are just for sensational purposes.

Media polls are meaningless except as a reflection of the media demographic.

They will use these to stir up their base.

An adverse result to their desired outcome will be buried. So go ahead and visit CNN.

54% / 46% closing the gap. Good work.

Whether results get buried or trumpeted, it sends a message to CNN and viewers. It also precludes people who would use a negative outcome to push their agenda, from claiming the public supports their view.

Gun control survey on CNN

53/47 and less than 1,000 votes. You have to go to the full website, bottom right corner.

I was surprised it was kind of subdued in its placement and wording. It times past polls like thus are more prominent and worded more blatantly biased. Of course, the fact they even ask about gun control rather than better self defense or dealing with deranged relatives reveals their strong bias.

Also, just asking about "gun control" with no specifics reveals the specifics are not important to them. Any restriction is gun control whether regardless of impact or efficacy.

Meh, roughly a 16% difference, but not surprising considering the base and left leaning tendencies CNN usually has.

Plus the question is way to vague. Still, it does show there is a pretty heavy bit of polarity on the topic and even on a left leaning news channel, the topic is still pretty even in regards to whether or not there needs to be more/less gun control.

Obviously I disagree, and that "poll" does not reflect the general demograph accurately, even if it was skewed towards the anti or pro side of the argument here.

Polls shape public opinion and public opinion shapes polls.

Unscientific or not, it shapes viewpoints especially for huge audiences like CNN.

To the dis-interested person, they will believe either of these two statements like sheep. "In a recent poll, in light of the shooting in California:

"Most Americans believe more gun laws are needed."

Versus

"Americans believe we have strict enough gun laws."

It does make a difference in the brainwashing... er... shaping of public viewpoints. Maybe not to the hard line folks for or against, but it does for the 20% or so in the middle.

Why bother? There's a new one of these every day, and given how easily small groups can influence the results, they're not taken very seriously. This is about as effective as those petitions on the White House site.

How about this survey question:
Do we need better laws to protect society from the dangerous mentally ill?

No. We just need laws against people making children without following through with their obligations as parents. Most of these sad murderers come from broken families. We need to wake up and realized that lack of proper mother/father parenting and divorce is a huge contributing factor to maladjusted children and out-of control adults. There's a good reason why "bastards" and people with children who got divorced were historically shunned.

Well, if my post gets poofed, no offense.
I refuse to visit their website or watch. Absolutely the most anti 2A of all.

I can respect that. I've blocked that channel on my TV for the same reason. I don't want to give them even an accidental ratings boost...

The website does at least provide a platform for dissent and discussion through Disgus. I do try to win hearts and minds there to prevent lefty from having an unchallenged message. The discussion forum associated with each topic is really pretty balanced. I do think a reasoned, considerate message helps sway folks reading who might be on the fence. (Particularly when contrasted to the hatred and hyperbole from the left)

Its CNN,

any relationship between CNN and the truth is purely coincidental.
