One proviso I think is still valid: On the BHP magazine load one or two less rounds; otherwise you might get a stoppage.
The British Special Air Services carried the BHP for decades and learned to load only 11 in the magazine and one in the tube. And as mentioned earlier, change out the recoil spring every few thousand rounds; again something the SAS did but the Brits were using especially heavy 9mm rounds and their guns dated to the softer steel of the older models. Now go watch Sean Connery carrying one in "A Bridge Too Far." |

Mercenary, I thought you mentioned something about excessive wear?
That gun doesn't even have enough wear to even start making the, "eh, it just adds character" jokes.

Some perspective from AL......
Used Glock 17's go for 385 - 450 at the LGS. NEVER seen a used BHP for under 550 - and that was only once at the 550 mark. Most used BHP's here are in the 600 - 700 range. I won't even weigh in on the combat-worthiness of each gun, just that you by far got the better end money-wise.

I hope for your sake that your wife is smarter than her father has proven to be.

Kiss your wife and thank her for blessing you with a generous father in law.
In all seriousness, I think you made the right decision. You traded a very common gun, of which you had a duplicate, for a classic firearm from years gone by. I don't even think Cheapshooter would argue much with that trade. |

I've said it before, but I would go out and buy a Glock to trade for a (in this case) Browning Hi-Power.
Afterthought: I got one of those deals myself one time. Traded a fellow a Glock 19 for a like new Smith & Wesson 29-2, with a 4" barrel.

OK, now I have no problem believing the gun is real!
Rubber pachmayrs on a high power. He needs professional help. Do yourself a favor (and the gun) get a nice set of wood like Hogues. http://www.hoguestore.com/index.php?...roducts_id=248

Maybe your father in law is feeling guilty about you getting his daughter. Just kidding. As long as you are both happy. No harm no foul.

I know, I know! Your father in law just wanted you to have a real gun in case you should ever have to protect his daughter!
Enjoy it, it’s a fantastic pistol! |

Today's Dollar Value Completely Aside
IMHO you made a major score and/or your Father In Law really likes you. Be aware 17 round mags have long been available, and Boy would it look good with walnut or better yet Rosewood grips. Eaglegrips.com hand carves & hand checkers theirs for the price of Coco-Bolo or Jose Ferer Hogues.

While I'd prefer the G17 for serious work, if I had an extra like you I'd make that trade in a New York minute. Heck, even if I only had one I'd make the trade and just buy another G17 later. Pretty gun.
