Anyone mind telling me how to use a dead hull to bore sight? What setups does this work with?

I don't know anything about boresighting a shotgun ....but I presume you might want to do it if you had a rear sight installed, or a scope and were using it for big game hunting ..... Its not for wingshooting ....

But I've seen these advertised ( but they have the hulls or snap caps included in the kits ...)...

I'm guessing you put the barrel securely between sand bags, insert a primerless hull and look through the flash hole. Center your target in the center of the muzzle opening and then correct your slug sights to aim at the same point. I've always thought of bore sighting as a way to minimize the number of rounds required to zero a new sight. Not really necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

kx592, I don't blame you. With today's prices, some sabots going for about the same price as rifle safari ammo, it's not quite the same a zeroing the sights on the old .22 LR.

The next time you have a question, please fully describe what you have in mind in the OP. This time, we got completely sidetracked discussing unloading the shell, instead of focusing on the cheapest way to zero your sights.
