308/ 7.62 Brass/ Mil-Surp Question
I am soon to be in the market for another mil surp 308, and I have narrowed it to either a FAL or a CETME ( I already have a Poly M14, and I want something different) I know CETME's brutalize brass and it cannot be reloaded, and I know very little about FAL's, so I am trying to find out if they are rough on brass also. Thanks for any help!

I had no brass problems when loading for an L1A1. I will caution you that some of the recent parts guns on the market have excessive headspace. If you plan on buying one of these I would have the headspace checked.
You might want to check this site out. www.falfiles.com |

CETME brass can be relaoded
If you can find mil-surp cases with boxer primers. Most commercial .308 brass is too soft for the CETME. There was some south african boxer that came in in the 90s but past that..? As long as you full length size its fine.

I would just find some LC brass, and load it for the CTME. It does not trash the brass that bad, just chunks into the next county! I wonder would a HK Port buffer help on a CTME?
I reloading 223 fired from 93 with no problem, and another guy reloaded brass from his 91, too. Sort of had that zebra look to it with fluting allowing gas flow back. I just would not load say Federal or Win brass or even RP brass. There are places like www.gibrass.com that have LC pull down brass that would be a choice for reloading for the CTME or FAL. |

Nothing wrong with CETME brass
I pick up brass at the range and reload it. Some has been through a CETME. Only problem I have had is the case neck tearing off, though I have had that only happen twice in about 100 CETME cases that I have FL resized. (And it takes only 30 seconds to clear the die and get back to sizing.) So basicly, if your brass is toast, you will find out at the resizing stage and can safely pitch that brass. Some of my CETME cases are going on their 3rd reload. I fire them out of my Enfield 2A using my 110 grain plinker loads. I also use them in my full house 308 loads for my 308 Saiga with no ill effect.
/308 Saiga: Doesn't matter if it is 7.62x51 or 308, it will safely eat both.
