First SxS - slight problem
Hi all-
I got my first SxS and I need a little help. I picked up an Ithaca SKB 200e 20ga and I want to clean it up a bit. I was able to get the fore arm off easily, but I can seem to get the barrels free from the receiver (my OU shotguns are less complex?). I was able to find schematic for the gun, but I wasn't able to decipher what I needed to do to separate the barrels from the receiver. I don't want to start randomly turning screws - can anyone offer some guidance? |

Did you use the opening lever, move it to the right and then remove the barrels?

My Winchester 101 disassembles like you mention, but this Ithaca SKB does not seem to do that.
With the fore end off the SKB and the action open, there seems to be a pin or something holding the barrels in the receiver. |

Right, the hinge pin
Take the forearm off, move the lever and open the barrels, lift the barrels up and off to remove. Reverse to install |

Right - fore end off, barrels open... no separation. The gun opens as is should but the barrels will not come free of the receiver.

You should be able to just lift them off the hinge pin after opening them without the forearm on. There are no screws or anything else involved in this

Maybe post a pic with the forearm off and barrels open?

Please forgive a stoopid question: Did you just remove the forend wood, leaving the foorend iron attached to the barrels, or did you unsnap the entire forend assembly off the barrelled action ?
Once the forend's off, along with the attached forend iron, there's nothing that should stop one from unhooking the barrel set from the action hinge pin when the top/opening lever's held in the "open" position. . |

It may be tight, but there is nothing hold it but friction with the fore end off and the barrels tilted way down. Get another set of hands.

I appreciate everyone's patience. I have a couple OU shottys and they disassemble like you all describe... this one just doesn't want to.
One pic is of the front of the receiver with the barrels still attached. The screw in front is what I THINK I might need to remove. The other pics are obviously of the side of the gun with the action open. The barrels do not want to simply lift out. Any advice is appreciated. |

I could be way off, but I'm doubting, that the screw is keeping the barrels attached. The obvious ways of removal, have already been addressed. Typical of any Break action shottys. However, after doing some research my own, your gun, isn't made by Ithaca. But Imported from Japan, as you may or may not have known. If that has anything to do with it. Don't know anything about Japanese shotguns. I find your problem perplexing and frustrating to be honest. Once you are able to figure the barrel situation out, please re-post and inform us of the solution.

Do NOT mess with screw in pic one. In pic 2 & 3 all you need to do is lift the barrels off with the top lever held to the right
When you DO lift them off, wipe that grease off and then reapply fresh grease, but no where near as much - a thin coating is all that is necessary |

UPDATE - I got the barrels off without removing any screws.
With my OU shotgun, pushing the lever over far enough to open the action was enough to remove the barrels if the fore arm was removed. In the case of my new 20ga, I had to push the lever about a quarter of an inch farther (once the action was open) to disengage the pin holding the barrels in. I'm just glad I didn't take it to a gunsmith to find this out. Thanks to everyone for their input. |

That screw holds on the extractor kicker.
For info: http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufact...929.htm?page=4 Glad you got it. |
