options for refinishing a slide ?

I've only just got an EAA Wintess Match. Black slide over stainless steel frame.
I havn't even shot it yet and already the slide coating is getting scratched in numerous places! I don't see this slide coating lasting long.

So what are my options with regards to getting the slide only refinished? I want a durable finish since I plan on keeping the gun for a long time.

Refinishing an EAA Witness slide will cause you to lose the "lifetime" warranty from the manufacturer. I had two EAA Witnesses, both in .45 and both with the Wonder finish. Both started having corrosion issues so I had them refinished in Hard Chrome by Techplate in California (www.techplate.com). Then at low round counts (2800-3200) both started having cracks in the frames and slides. I sent them back to EAA and they returned the pistols with a one sentence reply that stated "aftermarket refinishing voided their warranty." I have had eight other firearms refinished at Techplate and none of them have had any problems. So refinish your EAA at your own risk.

Needless to say I have not and will not buy any EAA products again.

best wishes- oldandslow

PS- Techplate's service, prices and turnaround time (about 3-4 weeks) are excellent.

Birdsong in Florence, MS. Don't have his number handy but you can google it. He does an excellent job and is very reasonable, especially if you just want the slide done.
