Help ID/info. on a Smith and Wesson
A friend of mine got this gun recently, she was wondering if I could tell her anything about it. Of course I couldn't, but I told her that I knew where to go and ask...
Could anyone tell us what model it is, anything about it at all would be of interest. She was also interested in finding out if it was of any monetary value, I think she paid $30 for it. I thought I saw a posting a while back from a guy who said he would be willing to look up a guns value for interested folks. Thank you very much! - Brian This is what she sent me with the pictures: Smith & Wesson Sringfield, Mass USA Serial # 387xxx May 11, 1880 Jan. 9, 1882 April 9, 188? |

serial number 387,xxx with barrel markings
May 11, 1880 Jan 3, 1882 Apr 9, 1889 would be a 38 Double Action Fourth Model made 1895-1909 in the serial range of 322,701 to 539,000. The grips in the picture do not look original. As for value, the attached pictures make it difficult to access the finish. Condition is critical on these 38's as they are fairly common. Dean |

Thanks Dean
Thanks for the info! I haven't seen the gun in person, so I can't speak for the condition. - Brian
