I want start reloading the .40S&W.
Should I buy the 4 die set from Lyman or a traditionnal 3 die set from another maker ?
Some say a 4 die set with a separate crimping die is better.
Why ? What do yall think ?

Hmm..
I like to crimp separatly but I'm using a Dillion 550. If you are using a single stage press then use the 3 die set to save time.
If you have a Lyman turret press.. go for the 4 die set.

Even when I was struggling with a single stage press loading for .45 ACP, I used a separate taper crimper, because I am convinced it is the right way to load for an "auto" pistol.

I don't see that you have a choice, except whether to buy it separate or as part of the die set.

I crimp with the 4th station on the Dillon 550B. So I bought Dillon dies. However, on a single stage, a three die set will save you a lot of time. I personally feel that you should crimp sepeartely.
