1st Wolf
Went out calling with a co-worker's grandson yesterday. We called in this guy and 4 or 5 of his friends on our second set. I didn't see the others as I got tunnel vision when I saw this one. Too bad because my partner saw the rest as they scattered after my shot. There was a nice black one in the bunch.
He was about 75 yards away and quartering toward me. I shot him with the .243 win in the pic using a Sierra 90 gr. FMJBT. Hit him in the shoulder, the bullet exited through the far side ribs and didn't tear up the hide. He limped about 30 yards before going down for good.

Sweet!
Nice job, that's one thing I never have killed yet. It's on my "Bucket List" of things to get done. How about the weight? I say 90+?

Way to go!
Did you slap yourself a couple times for getting tunnel vision? A black one is truly a top trophy! How much time have you spent hunting wolves?

Being from Idaho I am a little sad.... Sad that the wolf that was killed was from Alaska.

Nice one Bro! You'll get a pair of slippers out of that pelt that'll pull up far enough to keep you butt warm!

big
That is a big dog.
What are the specifics in regards to Wolf hunting laws in Alaska? Is there a season? & bag limit? Or are they varmit and you can hunt them all day/year? Our dog handler had a culling session 3 nights ago. Some of the local strays have been invading camp and causing trouble. This kid clipped 3 or 4 from the tower using a spotlight. Last team was much more proactive and would set claymores by the burn pit and take out half a dozen of them at a time...

With a hunting liscence the season is August 10th to April 30th and five wolves are allowed. With a trapping liscence the season is November 10th through March 31st and there is no limit. My combo hunt/trap allows for up to 5 wolves during the hunting season and no limit during the trapping season but blah blah... You get the picture. Quote:

your tax $
Yes, actually your tax money is paying for that and much more.
We had an airdrop (figure the cost of a C-17 flight for 90 minutes if a pair of Blackhawks cost $5k per hour to fly) that delivered us 20 pallets of spoiled milk and Gatorade protein shakes (which we threw right into the trash). I've seen a $50,000 JDAM take out two Talliban on a hill, not because the mortars couldn't reach but because the pilots needed some bullet points for their tour award. Our Delta keeps swearing that he'll light off a Javelin ($84,000) before the end of the tour for no other reason than "he's never fired one in anger before." War is a serious waste of $. We could have saved trillions by just paying the Talliban a couple of million for bin Laden's head. But if we did that, what would Boeing and L3 do for funding? LOL. Oh █████, I'd be out of a job too! War is hell, now pass the whisky! Anyhow, nice kill.

That's a great picture. I don't know that I could hunt a wolf, but I have no problem with it. I know for many, the chance to take one would be a once in a lifetime hunt.
I really enjoy that picture, that wolf looks a lot bigger than 90lbs, so again, congrats.

Even though I think they are pretty cool it didn't stop me from pulling the trigger. I have friends who wouldn't shoot one but they aren't against others hunting/trapping them.
