Magnum primers OK?

I managed to swap some Unique for 500 magnum small pistol primers. Are they OK for 38 cal?

Which gunpowder do you plan to use? Magnum primers are for slower burning powders like 2400.

Yes, you can use magnum primers in handgun or pistol loads. They usually work best with medium to slow powders. But in sub freezing weather, they'll do fine with the faster powders.

Winchester's standard small pistol primer puts out more fire and heat than Federal's magnum small pistol one. Go figure. Prime some cases (no powder or bullet) and shoot them in the dark. See the difference between all sorts of primers. Most folks are surprised.

I have used them in 38 target loads with bullseys, 231 and unique, they work just fine. The only issue I have with them is with guns that have light actions, they tend to yield some missfires if your harrmer spring is lighter than stock.
