Ruger Red Hawk .44 mag - back to Ruger
Dan Wesson .44 mag - Back to DW
Llama Super Comanche .44 mag - Back to Llama - I really liked this gun.
I've had bad luck with .44 magnums for some reason. I still have the DW and won't part with it. The rest are gone.

Many Taurus handguns revolvers and pistols, never any trouble at all. Some I still have and some I don't.

Plenty of people have owned a Taurus and never had a problem. Plenty of people have owned a Charter Arms and never had a problem. But the quality control of both of these companies is very poor. What this means is that you have a significant likelihood of getting a lemon. When the firearms are produced as they should be, they are serviceable weapons. But you take a significant risk with your purchase.

Other companies, like Ruger, Smith, etc. have much better quality control. You might get a dud but the chances are extremely slim (never mind recalls, these are systemic issues that are always corrected for free). And if you indeed do have a problem, they will pay shipping, the people on the phone are great (particularly from Ruger and Smith) and the service is fast.

My FFL sees more Taurus returns than ANYTHING else. He doesn't deal with 4 guns. He deals with 100 Taurus firearms a year. Returns range from 5-15% a year. He says the rate for the other manufacturers is much lower, maybe 1-2% per year, typically user problems. The last I asked, they don't regularly pay for shipping but that may well be attributed to weapons breaking after the 1st year.

My list...

I'll jump in here on this:

Taurus Model 66SS .357 - Never had a problem.
Taurus Model 651 .357 - Never had a problem
Taurus Raging Bull .44 Mag - Never had a problem.
Taurus PT92AFS - Never had a problem
Taurus PR1911 9mm - Brand new but it doesn't look like it's going to have any problems.

Now....

Para Ordnance P1445S - To Para twice for slide not locking back. Has constant FTF issues.
Para Ordnance PX1445S GR - To Para for multiple issues brand new out of the box.
Para PCX745S - To Para for multiple issues brand new right out of the box.

I love my Para's but I haven't had very good luck with them. Not so with all my junk Taurus's. They run pretty good.

The Taurus hate threads don't bother me at all anymore, mine works perfectly. When the cowboys start paying my bills, I'll start giving a damn about what they think.

I've never had any issues shooting Taurus firearms. A friend of mine has an older PT92, and I haven't had any issues with my PT1911 (that weren't caused by a VERY cheap magazine that came free as part of a promotion). There will always be poor firearms, but I do not have any experience with horrible handguns that say "Taurus" on the slide. I thought about getting one of the smaller 9mms awhile back, but I ended up going with something else. Taurus' reputation (which from what I have heard is MUCH better) had zero effect on my decision though.

I owned the TCP738 for awhile-it was built broken. Unless the magazine is supposed to fall out with each shot, or jam every round. Lucky for me my gun store let me take it back and trade it for a Ruger LCR .38 and I could not be happier.
I would suggest looking at the return policy before buying ANY gun. Also try out various brands of ammo. My Springfield XD .45 ACP is picky about ammo-it likes the WWB and PDX rounds, but jams with every round of Hornady XTP.
My S&W 10-8 has an ejector rod that gets loose every so often and needs to be tightened manually before it will shoot.

Bashing Taurus was a well conceived plot, amongst a mysterious group of men and women, to ruin the good name of the bull, for no apparent reason!

Get the Taurus

I have a PT-101AF. It's good. Been to the shop once. It's been just fine since. Accuracy is better than I can do. The money you'll save from the Beretta, will get you a far amount of Win Ranger 155gr....

I knew it. I just knew it. It had to be a liberal, socialist, commy, propagandized, hated filled, anti-gun mongering, bible burning, government over-reaching plan to take away my guns by making me believe that they were worthless to begin with. Oh the cowardness of such a nefarious plot on our shores to deprive us of our right to carry truly cheap arms makes me ill.:barf:

Let's talk Taurus

John, I was at the range, firing normal winchester rounds. I gave the pistol to my son in law to try, he shot one round and the clip fell out. I took the gun, tried to put the clip back in but it wouldn't stay. Upon examining it further, the release button for the mag broke in half, causing the mag to release. I sent it back to Taurus, the said don't shoot reloads, which I haven't, and so I took it back to the range, fired about a half a box of ammo and the same thing happened. I have the PT911 with the fake gold release, and it looks like the release button is sheared in half. Sent it back to Taurus, the fixed it again. I haven't shot it since. Not real comfortable with the gun now.
Let me add, I am NOT a Taurus basher. I bought the gun of my own free will, and if I decide to sell it, it will be because I don't want it anymore. Taurus has been great about honoring their warranty although it is a hassle to ship it back and forth for repair. Be that as it may, I wouldn't cut down an entire company because of one inconvenient issue.

I guess I should have added:

Taurus 85CH stainless-broke on 1st day. Back to factory.

Taurus 85CH stainless-replacement to first broken .38. It broke with less than 75 rounds through it, had to be sent back to factory.

Taurus PT145-latest gen. stainless, Broke on first range trip. Sent back to factory.

Three strikes and you are out!!!

Lesson learned, I do not buy cheap when it comes to protecting me or my family. I do not buy cheap and try to justify it on a forum. I can't justify Taurus over other well made firearms that work as designed. If you buy Taurus as a plinker that is entirely up to you. End of story.

4 runner is honestly the first person I've heard of with a taurus with more than 500 trouble free rounds.

Why would you continue to love guns that seem to hate you?

Extreme reliability is what I require in any semi-auto being used for self-defense. I'll get rid of any firearm being employed for self-protection if I can't trust it to function reliably, and I don't care how nice it looks or feels nor who made it.

I agree. I've had Glocks, CZ, Kahr, Ruger, Colt, etc. malfunction on me one way or the other. If they aren't reiable they are gone. I've owned 6 Hk's and have yet to ever have one malfunction on me in any way ever. Kind of a no brainer you'd think if you were in my shoes. The difference is that my 3 of 3 Taurus all broke, not malfunctions, I'm talking broken, inoperable, needed to be sent back. My CCW is an Hk P7 or P7m8 and I trust them to perform in any given situation.

I don't use any Para's for self defense. I don't use any single action only pistols for self defense.

My first Para ran flawlessly for many years. When it broke for the first time it took months for Para to fix it. I had to send it to them twice before it was repaired properly.

The other two Para's were purchased by me within one month of each other. They were both broken when they showed up at my FFL. Not broken obviously enough to refuse and send back to the vendor. Only after I got them home, field stripped them and inspected them did I discover the multiple problems with each gun. Knowing what I know now I would not buy any more Para firearms. But that's just me. We have many discussions about Para reliability on 1911Forum.com and more people than not claim to have very good reliability records with their Para's.

This is just becoming a Taurus sucks no it doesn't thread ... let me just say this. Everyone has has their own experience with Taurus. Be it good or bad. I have had zero problems, however I know many others have had problems. And I do believe them. BUT if we all liked the same firearm... that would be no fun. Just saying. Let's all get along and agree to disagree. We can all choose our own firearms. And that's a good thing.

Unfortunately, this always seems to be the case when the subject of Taurus (and Hi-Point, Glock and Kimber) comes up. People seem to invest way too much of their psyche and passion into their opinions on inanimate, innocuous things like guns.

I just say they aren't worth the head ache... YES you can get a good Taurus.. but there seems to be an equal chance you'll get a bad one. I send a few of them a week back for repair.. all different models... new or used, seems more of an issue with semi-auto's but their revolvers have been brought back... Judges too.

I can only relate my own experience with them. My best friend has one that runs flawless.... but I ship back broken ones all the time at the gun shop I work at.

The reason is that a LOT of folks have a LOT of trouble with their products. Myself included, I've never owned a Taurus worth a damn. I gave up after 2. It's no conspiracy.

You should have been buying lottery tickets instead of Taurus firearms

Personally, I won't own one. I've had experience with two of their handguns, a PT22 my father bought and a .357 Tracker that my brother bought. The fit and finish on both of the pistols was sub-par at best, with the worst being the PT22. Some of that guns parts looked like they were carved out of a block of steel with a hatchet. The PT22 failed to eject over half of the rounds in each magazine, and the my brothers Tracker locked up solid with live rounds still in the chamber.
