A coyote morning... anybody else?

This far into December, I imagine most of you coyote hunters have been out taking care of business and piling up the hides. I, on the other hand, have been mostly derelict in duty and until this morning could only claim one clean miss for the season. (Just missed - no excuses - a blind man with palsy could have made the shot. I did not. )

This morning was another story. I connected with a Rem 700 SPS Varmint in 223. I absolutely love these Hornady 40 grain V-Max rounds out of the gun... a clean little entry and no exit... but a big mess inside that sends them to the big rabbit and chicken fields in the sky, instantly.

This one was a 30-35lb. female with a super nice December coat.

Half done...

And done!

Anybody else? How are ya'll doing with the coyotes this year?

A big pack of coyotes has been ripping it up around here lately, getting closer every night. A week ago, they were hunting between 1/4 & 1/2 mile away so I got my coyote gun out of the safe. Next thing you know, a buncha sheep move in next door with two BIG sheepdogs, haven't heard a coyote since

Coyote hunting at Lowe`s Hardware

Thats a nice coyote LNF.

Wife and I just got back from Lowe`s Hardware. Pulled in the parking lot and down by the lumber pick-up, out in the grass, someone had leaned a frozen coyote up against a light pole. Don`t know if they took it out of truck to load wood or what. Maybe forgot it. Anyway it had a nice heavy coat. Alot of reddish tint to it.

Shortwave, that's the funniest thing I've heard in awhile! Who leans a coyote against a pole and leaves it there? I'm picturing that. (LMAO!)

When we made the turn into the lot and headlights hit it I couldn`t believe it. Looked like he was alive and just standing there. Dropped wife off at door and went back for a close-up.
Sure enough, eyes weren`t failing me.

I know the manager(he`s a hunter) and asked him if I could get written permission to hunt in his parking lot. Don`t think he believed me til I took him out and showed him.

Coat was very nice and would have made a nice mount.

That's a beaut you've got there. Reading your post and seeing the pic makes me want to get out first thing in the A.M., but I've got too many chores that I've been putting off for too long.

I've been working them over a little bit this year with pretty good luck; only fair skill. I've called up ten or twelve, and only killed three. We've had a heck of a cold spell around here, and that just makes them hungrier, so I've got to get out and do some more squealing. jd

One of my favorite things is when people use the word "beaut."
