CC at the DMV? North Carolina
As our laws state, you may not carry where state employees work or on state property. However our local DMV's are leased and operated by private contractors, not DMV employees. My assumption is that makes the rule not applicable there. Thoughts?

Don't assume.

Is the location posted with a sign??? If not, since it's a contractor and not the state you should be okay..... No different than walking into a business.

I would still investigate quietly a little more. There are things called "GOCO" facilities (Government Owned / Contractor Operated).
Regardless of who actually staffs the DMV, it may still qualify as a government facility. |

I think Scott's post above is probably right...still considered a state office despite being operated by a contractor.

The DMV is a bit like the Post Office in some states. Its actual status as a "government building" is hazy, but I wouldn't risk it.

One of those grey areas that might be real hard to navigate. Sadly the DMV is one place where one really might need protection! Thanks Gentlemen, not worth the risk.

According to a person I talk to who works for NCDMV," All DMV offices are gun free zones except for LEO".
