suggestions for new semiauto

I'm in the market for a new center fire semi auto rifle. I have a Mini14 and an AR15. I really like the Mini so I was leaning towards an M1A. I am probably looking in the $1000-$1200 range. It must have a detatchable box magazine and have high capacity mags available. I have a Browning BAR in .300WM and while I love it, it just seems pointless to have such a large callibur in semiauto. I reload my own ammo so im not going to shy away from uncommon calliburs. I want something that i can hunt at least whitetail sized game with and also target shoot a lot with. Any sugestions?

M1 garand

I know it is not what you are looking for but M1 garands from CMP are limited in number. Whe you want one they may be gone.
I would look at the longer Ar style lower. You could consider an upper for your AR in another caliber like the 6.8 spc.

I second the suggestion for another AR upper either in 6.8 or 6.5.

PSA still has 6.8 uppers for sale at their original pre-panic prices. Just get a 6.8 upper for your AR and your all set. Of course you will need to find a BCG and some Mags. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...ng-handle.html

I picked up a semi the other day on an impulse that has been loads of fun to shoot. It is a PTR 32 made by Precision Target Rifle from Hartford CT I believe. The rifle is based on the HK91 with the same roller-delayed blowback system, although instead of using 7.62x51mm NATO rounds, it uses 7.62x39mm AK rounds instead. It's cheap to shoot, accurate and has almost no recoil. It's out of production at the moment but due out with a redesign that will allow it to take all AK magazines (at the moment the tight tolerances don't allow some surplus magazines to fit).

The PTR 91 is their 7.62x51mm version which is based directly on the HK91 if you want more power.

I doubt you'll find an M1A in your price range although you may find a used one for that. Might want to look into a CETME in that price range. I've got a buddy that owns one and loves it. Not quite as accurate as an M1A but fun to shoot.

I think this fits your requirements.

They're a lot of fun to shoot.
I haven't hunted with my svt40, but I've used 7.62x54 to level some deer with a mosin. Does the job beautifully.

M1 Garand. It's next on my list if they have any left by the time I'm ready to purchase one.

I have a buddy, in Hamburg, NY. He has an M1 Garand, converted to 762X51, basic .308, and shortened, Tanker?

Not sure what the cost was, he had an M1 Garand to start. It sure looks, and feels good.

My dad picked up a NIB PTR-91 for 1099 yesterday. The PTR-91 matches what you what you are looking for and is within your price range.

M1 Garand

If our less than forthright politicians didn't refuse the Korean Garands, we would have plenty to go around. To let history die like this is shameful...

Get a Garand and have a ball....

Sounds like you are looking for:

M1A
FAL built on a domestic receiver
PTR-91
Cetme

Some of these may be hard to find in your price range, but that's all I can come up with that is close to it.

For long range semi auto goodness and a warm fuzzy feeling get one of these. They fit your budget and you can get 20 round pmags for it.

260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmore 24 inch SS barrel heavy as hell so recoil is not that bad.
