8 Round Mags in a RO?

This may be a dumb question, but can I use 8 round mags in my new Range Officer? Thanks.

Sure, why not? Wilson Combat makes good ones.

Colts and Springers ship with 7 round mags. That's just how they are.

Any 7 or 8 round magazines will work fine with your gun, and since it has a steel frame, it'll be safe with "devel" style followers like you see on CMC mags.

Any type Wilsons or Chip McCormick mags will be fine. The Wilson mag nomenclature is confusing, but there's essentially the standard "47" type and the ETM "500" type in 8 round flavors, the different variants are essentially what kind of base pads you can put on them.

I shoot Wilson 8 round mags in all of my SA guns.

I would recommend the Wilson Combat 47D magazine. I have used them in my 1911s and they are excellent. I never had any issues when using them.

FWIW you can still buy 8-10rd mags in NYS; you just can't put more than 7 rounds in one unless you're at an organized shooting range.

Of course you can. They have ones that fit flush and ones that have an extended butt. (preferred)

Yes you can, I had two of the WC 8 round 47D mags and ran them in my RO. They worked great.

Not all Colts. My XSE shipped with 2 Colt 8-rounders.

By the way, the Colt 8-rounders are pretty excellent. They have been just as reliable for me as Wilson 47Ds or Chip McCormick Power Mags.

The only downside is that they are a little tougher to disassemble, due to the solid baseplate design. The upside, though, is that they fit perfectly flush to the bottom of the grip.
