AA3100 vs. Accurate Magpro

Hi guys, I keep seeing AA3100 showing up as most accurate powder in my Nosler handbook. I emailed Accurate and they said that the powder was discontinued and that Accurate Magpro was their main replacement. Are they the same thing, similar, or totally different?

Totally different. Accurate 3100 is an extruded (stick) powder, while Magpro is a spherical (ball powder). Magpro has a slower burning rate and is not as flexible as 3100. I was sorry to see Accurate discontinue 3100, but since I still have at least 10 lbs of Accurate Data 86 Extruded on hand, I am not too concerned about it. (Data 86 was a surplus powder offered a few years ago that is just a hair quicker burning than 3100, and even uses the same loading date in a number of cartridges) If you are looking for a more similar powder to Accurate 3100, I suggest trying to find some IMR-4831, H-4831, Reloder 22 or Vihtavuori N-165. Powders more similar to Magpro would be Ramshot Magnum, or Winchester 780, both slow burning spherical powders. I got better accuracy with the extruded powders, while Magpro did put up some impressive velocity readings in my .270WSM.
Which cartridges were you hoping to load with it?

I was hoping to load. 270, .300 win. mag., .338 win. mag., and posibbly 30-06. I have IMR4831 and RL22, but my question is, why did Accurate discontinue AA3100 if it was such a good powder?
