Please don't take this the wrong way, but do you have any manuals?

If not, that's the first place I would start. They will list starting loads and max loads, along with powders suitable for the caliber.

IMR 4350 will work for both the 243 and 270.

243 win start 38.5 max 42.0 with 100 gr.

270 win start 49.0 max 53.2 with 140gr.

honestly i have verry little info about reloding rifles,( spent a few years trap shooting) and want to get the materials as i find them i have reloaded 223 but stayed a good 10% under for a starting point, i have searched and searched online and picked up a few books and took alot of notes here and there for max loads and looked up alot of manufacturer loads for each but ifi can find a good powder for both i will start looking into what safe charges would be, do i make much sence? from what i gather h380 or alliant 4350 are both suitable powders for this cartiges butwant some input before i even try putting things together.

IMR4350 and heavier bullets in .243, IMR7828. I don't reload for .270 yet but plan on it in the future

.243 and .270 are both going to use powders in the middle to slightly slow end of the spectrum.

There's a ton of data available online.

Don't worry about matching the exact bullet. As long as the weight and construction is similar, as in lead core, copper jacket (most bullets) or solid, monolithic (Barnes TSX, Hornady GMX) you can interchange data

ok i got a 1/2 lb of h380 its a common powder between the 2 i am going to try a base load of 34 gr for the 100 gr siera spitzer boattail int he 243calls for max @ 38 gr., and for the 270 i want to try a 55 gr load (max load 59 gr) of the speer 90 gr holow point tnt projectile, both with federal 210 magnum primers? would this be a reasonable starting point? till i can gather some books and get more info?

I don't own a 243 so no input on that end.

I have worked with two picky 270s and the 4350 powder was the one that got one acceptable (my view at 1.25" at 100) and the other sub moa at 100.

I won't being to say its the only powder for 270 but it seems to be universal in that it seems to work well in 270s generally though there may be some it does not.

If it works in the 243 as well then it would be a good one to start with.

Follow the links to Hodgdon data. The "H" is H380 stands for Hodgdon. They have the data you want, for free, online.

Both of your max loads are way over Hodgdon's data.
