Question about Triple7 and 209 primers

What exactly is corrosive in between these 2 things? This is what we use for muzzleloading during hunting. Is triple 7 pellets corrosive? or a 209a shotshell primer? I clean them and treat them as they are indeed corrosive I just was wanting some clarity on the subject.

My guess is that the 209 shotshell primer residue isn't corrosive or else everyone's shotgun bore would become corroded, and basically we all know that's not the case.
It's a good idea to treat 777 as if it was corrosive because if it's able to absorb moisture from the air, then the two together could cause corrosion over time.
Moisture can do it all by itself, but 777 residue probably acts like a catalyst.

777 might shoot a lot cleaner than black powder, but if there's any humidity at all, the gun will be rusting about as badly.
The gun has to be cleaned the same as if using BP.

777 and pyrodex are both corrosive after firing plus they both absorb moisture from the air before firing.

I do treat them as they are both corrosive but I just wanted to make sure.

I've seen people claim triple 7 isn't and I was like well if its not then those 209s sure are! Also '209a' primers wouldn't be considered corrosive either would they?

That's the reason good gunshops are very leary about taking muzzleloaders in on trade. They'll examine them very closely to make sure the user kept it clean.

According to Federal, 209A primers are non-corrosive.
