The S&W Model 1000 was made for S&W by Howa of Japan.

S&W sold the Model 1000, along with a near copy of the Remington 870, known as the Model 3000.
S&W sold the Model 1000 from 1972 to 1984.

The "M" version was the Magnum model with a steel receiver.
The other versions were aluminum.

After S&W dropped the shotgun line, Mossberg picked up both guns and sold them for a couple of years, before they too dropped them.
Mossberg sold them from 1986 to 1987.

The Howa-made Model 1000 was a good quality gun.
Apparently there was some problem with some "O" rings in the gas system needing to be replaced once in a while.

Gun Parts Corporation bought all the parts from both S&W and Mossberg, and they still sell most all parts.

Currently, a S&W Model 1000 would be worth "about" $400 to $425 in 100% new condition.
Prices will vary depending on actual condition, and where it's for sale.
