If not a 11-87 Magnum, What?

A guy I work with wants to get a new auto load shotgun that can fire 2 3/4",3",and 3 1/2" shells.

He has been looking at 11-87 Magnums,what others should he be looking at or are 11-87's the best?

I recently purchased a Winchester Super X2. Improved my trap scores from 10 out of 25 to 23 out of 25. Took it dove hunting and it was spot on. Let one of the "veterans" shoot it at the club and he said "it shoots where you point it" In addition it's basically the same gun as the Browning Gold Hunter 3 1/2 without the mag cutoff for $150 - 200 less.

It depends on how much you want to spend-----the Benelli Super Black Eagle is the best hands down----but it is also the most expensive.

He got the 11-87 magnum.

I took him to the range Sunday and he is very happy with his new gun.

It had some trouble with 2 3/4" light target loads but handled 2 3/4" game loads,3" slugs, and 3 1/2" 00 buckshot just fine.

He's real happy with it.

Nobody has mentioned yet The Franchi (512?). I know they are a 2 3/4" to 3 1/2" gun. I've only seen the 3 1/2" guns at a few shops, the 3" guns are more common. Benelli is importing them now, they even have "Benelli" written on the end of the box. Price wise they are less expensive than the Gold or SuperBlack.

I agree with rugerfreak. SBE is unbeatable. I have handled all so when a used one showed itself....it became mine.

Tell him to buy one - he won't regret it.

berreta owns benneli and they own franchi..in fact the benelli receiver is used on some berretas...hope he likes his 11-87..I have heard some horror stories but maybe remington has the kinks worked out..offer he good luck..HK-out

Its a Franchi 712. I was out shooting a couple rounds of skeet this afternoon and a fellow showed up with one in a synthetic stock version. He said he had just bought it and was looking for a chance to try it before duck opener here in WI this weekend. Being the shy kind of guy I am I went over and asked if I could shoot a couple stations with it. It was a real soft shooter, shoots flat, no failures with 1 1/8 8s (Kent brand).
